Patience Pays to Get Promoted: In Balancing the Act
Being busy is the ultimate status symbol: It means you are important. But defining yourself by how much you can cram in a day has consequences. Moreover, it is important to set goals for yourself in order to guide you where you are heading and why.
The most common goal for employees and the basis why they work so hard is promotion. Of course, most employees try to cram jobs just to get promoted. Most employees feel that the more they pile on, the more valued and successful they are.
However, this isn’t true in all cases. Not all people that work hard get promoted. In this case, one virtue takes center stage to maintain that energy and continue to strive for success. It is patience. As they say, patience is a virtue. It is one of those qualities that an employee must possess in order to meet his or her goals for promotion.
In reality, balancing patience and ambition can be really hard. At some point, people tend to lose patience by being too ambitious. Hence, drastic moves take place. Yes, it can be difficult to balance these two elements of success, but these pointers can help:
1. Merits pay
In evaluating an employees performance, employers use criteria. This criteria entails the rating system from which the employees performance is based. Criteria or rating systems substantiate every task performed and is converted into merits. This is where the employers base their employees promotions.
Knowing your rating system isn’t enough to lead you to promotion. Patience is more important because at some point, your merits may not immediately commensurate to the kind of promotion you deserve. Hence, you need to wait, work harder, and endure more.
2. Dream on
Nowadays, if people will just observe their surroundings, they will see employees who really work hard, even bring their workload home, and work from dusk till dawn. And these are the people who get promoted. You might say that this is no longer acceptable because they work beyond their working hours. But this is where patience applies. If you want to get that dream car, live the life you have always wanted, and get that promotion, work hard, toil more, and be patient.
Things like these don’t just come once in a lifetime. They happen and you have to make it happen by being patient because patience pays in getting promoted.
