Ways to Get Promoted as a Sales Supervisor

What a sales supervisor job requires
Sales supervisors do more than just oversee sales clerks and staff. They also bring in the biggest clients and get rewarded as well. Not only that, they are also called in for troubleshooting and to reel in big clients. They travel frequently to make sure that their areas are performing as expected. They are also required to make sure sales quotas are met.

How to get promoted to sales supervisor
Dreaming of a sales supervisor job and actually getting it are two different things. If you want to nail that supervisory job from a rank and file position, make sure you have the chops to show for it. Your employer will be looking for star performers. Here’s how to let your boss know you deserve that promotion:

Increase your sales.
Ask any sales supervisor and they’ll tell you they had a history of good sales before they got promoted. Try to bring in higher sales each month. Meeting your quota is nice but it doesnt show exemplary performance. Aim for going beyond your limit and bringing home higher sales and profits. If you make more money for the company, your bosses will see you as an asset, somebody who can perform consistently.

Introduce new clients.
Maintaining several high sales and profit accounts is good, but show your employers that you can do better. Bring new and profitable clients to the fold and show you have the ability to close deals.

Take more responsibility.
Getting promoted as sales supervisor means more work and time will be demanded from you. Often, you might even be required to do a lot of traveling and work on a demanding schedule. If you’re up to it, ask for more responsibility.

Start with simple tasks such as preparing sales reports or volunteering to handle more clients. Getting introduced to more clients can help you expand your skills and increase your portfolio. It will also give you a great opportunity to increase your sales.

If you think you can handle it, volunteer to take on a difficult client but only if you truly can perform and produce positive results. If you’re successful, that will be another reason why you whould be considered for a promotion as sales supervisor.

Get updated.
Sales trends have a notorious tendency of peaking and dipping, so be sure to get your hands on industry trends to help you foresee your chances and project your sales effectively. This shows your bosses that you have foresight and that you are capable of adapting and surviving in the market regardless of whether it’s friendly or hostile.
